Why did the chicken cross the yard?

...because the other ones did.
I know- it’s a punchline I’ve been working on a for awhile. As far as we can tell, that is the main reason. It’s sweet really. They must be Norwegian.
Besides that, what else have we learned about our little hens? I am so glad you asked. I think this calls for a list:
Chicken Scratch- a list of lessons
We have a Houdini Hen, escaping her confines no matter the obstacle. This has launched me past my fears and forced me to corner her in the yard, grab her, and escort her back to the coop. Twice. She’s now my favorite. I appreciate gumption.
They pass the word. As Kenny and I sat out back with wine one evening, watching them meander, we happened to toss some rice and scraps out in front of us
for no apparent reasonto make them love us. Once one chicken(Houdini Hen) ambled up and discovered the goods, she shot across the yard to the rest and gave one, long squawk. Our suspicions were confirmed as they all flew back across the yard at us- she TOLD them about it! It was fantastic.
8:30pm is their strict bedtime. Unless we are out in the yard to distract them, they are all up in the coop and on their dowels come 8:30, ready to be tucked in. We’ve talked about how to make our children behave so well on their own volition. Might have to involve the threat of raccoons.
Tune in next time when I tell you about one who actually does the Chicken Dance.
P.S. I couldn’t find any funny chicken videos to post for you today. If you know of any, please let me know. Otherwise you’re just going to have to take my word on all of this.
