Home from…home.

September 16, 2011 § 2 Comments

I definitely came back with only part of my heart this time.
And plenty of new recipes.

It’s hard to believe that not too long ago, I was anticipating a visit to the place I also call “home.”  And all too soon, it was over.  I tried so hard to be present, even asking Kenny to remind me to slow down and take it all in, but time still passes and you still end up heading home at some point.  Boo.

We managed to visit those we love and miss, see a few families of bears, take in some Haines School sports (their volleyball team is amazing), and eat plenty of meals with great folks, including delicious halibut.  Oh- and have PLENTY of Mountain Market coffee.  Double tall caramel mocha= my favorite thing.  Besides Kenny.  And milk.  And Jesus.

But not in the that order.

(They use chocolate milk, y’all.  I mean, come on. It makes so much sense. Much like when they added stirrups to leggings so your pants no longer crept up out of your scrunch socks and the world went, “of course.

It’s like that.)

The cherry on top? We actually saw some Northern Lights.  Le sigh.  It was quite the unexpected treat.  A decidedly non-treat?  Well, leaving. We had a beautiful ferry ride to Juneau, but other than that, just sad to say goodbye.

Leaving Face

It was such a blessing.  What else is there to say besides it was a great visit to those we hold so dear, a lovely and refreshing time away, and time to admire God’s creation in epic proportions (always a good thing).   And we’ll be back. Plans are already in the works.  😉

*Unfortunately, the applicable pics for this post are the most unflattering of the bunch we managed to take during our visit.  Just thought I’d throw that disclaimer out there. I am, in fact, aware of my hair.  It is in “unkempt, awkward stage.” Look forward to a few more pictures in a mini Facebook album, if I ever get that far.  WordPress can only handle so many before we both freak out.

I know it is hard to leave such a special place and special people, but my heart is full now that you are back. Had to be honest, Sis, …” cause I am torn for you and your happiness, too 😦
