“Well, I mean, Montana’s not that far.”
Ah yes- the words I uttered with a shrug that started it all.
A 36-hour road trip to Helena and a new car.
Our car search had gone on long enough. We were finally on to something with the Kia Rondo and there it was-at the right price though in another state’s capital- and we exchanged glances. Why not?
You mean you don’t go two states away for a car? Just us?
It was beautiful. It was exhausting. It was invigorating. It was my husband’s birthday and New Year’s Eve. We listened to comedy on Pandora and The Hunger Games on audio book. We marveled at the snow and single-digit temperatures. We celebrated Kenny’s 29th with dinner at a bar & grill and a mini cake in the La Quinta (candles setting off the fire alarm and all- hence trying again in the bathroom sans fire alarm).
There were moments of doubt, plenty of lost sleep, and a lot of prayer. But we did it. We put our grownup pants on, signed the papers as a team, and drove away with the newest vehicle we’ve ever owned.
And I only pulled out The Belly once. At the end. For a tank of gas.
Totally worth it.PLL (Pregnany Lady Leaping)
In other words: My ’91 Cavalier and his ’91 4Runner out, ’10 Rondo in.
